Annual Okinawa Centenarian Visit Started

Horizon, BBC's most decorated science program, has been following the Okinawa Centenarian Study scientists to document healthy aging in both Okinawa and Hawaii.

Chample 3 Study Now Complete

Dr. Hidemi Todoriki, an ORCLS-affiliated researcher in the Faculty of Medicine at University of the Ryukyus, working together with ORCLS researcher Dr. Craig Willcox on a Japan Society for Promotion of Science-funded research project recently completed a four week intervention study called "The Chample Study 3." The Chample Study investigates the effect of increased consumption of traditional Okinawan vegetables on human health and has had two previous runs. Chample Study 3 called for volunteers from the American civilian community residing in Okinawa and analyzed blood and urine samples for oxidative stress markers before and after a four week intervention that involved consumption of traditional Okinawan vegetables, which were prepared professionally and healthily by a local caterer using recipes from The Okinawa Diet Plan, a best-selling book by Drs. Willcox and Suzuki. The book is based on ORCLS research on nutrition and healthy aging. The study results will be available in the near future.
